Spring Naturalist Series: Botany and Nature Awareness

This series consists of 3 outdoor classes and is designed for individuals at any skill level who are interested in having fun outdoors learning about PNW plants, wildlife, tidepools, bogs, natural history, foraging, and a bit of photography. Each class will incorporate hands-on experience and photo prompts to deepen your awareness of the natural world and augment your curiosity. You will learn about botany, ecology, ethnobotany, foraging, tideppols, and different habitats we find in NW Washington including upland forest, bogs, and coastal bluffs.

Overall, we will be moving at a slow pace during each outing as we focus on our surroundings, have mini lectures, or engage in activities. Expect some gentle to moderate hiking, and some kneeling or squatting. Each class will build on the previous one. For details on each outing visit the link provided!

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
