Travelogue: "Searching for C-Clamps in Kigali"

Join Bellingham Parks & Recreation for a presentation with guest speakers Alex Brede & Megan McGinty in the Rotunda Room of Old City Hall. The smallest country in East Africa holds amazing diversity and wisdom within its borders: the Congo-Nile Trail, Lake Kivu, Nyungwe Forest, and resilient communities rebuilding themselves.

In January & February 2023, Alex Brede and Megan McGinty spent 6 weeks traveling and volunteering in Rwanda. In this presentation, they share what they learned and the new connections they made in both Rwanda and North America.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
