Tuesday Ceramics Independent Study

For intermediate and advanced students.

Students in Independent Studies bring their ideas to try new techniques for wheel throwing, hand building, or sculpting with the aid of a professional ceramic artist. Students will set goals for one or two techniques they would like to learn during the 7-week course. Working with a professional instructor, students will gain feedback and techniques that will guide them to develop a thorough body of work. All guidance and advanced techniques will be catered to your specific style of work. The 7-week course will include free open studio hours for implementing new techniques and developing a body of work. Independent research and self-direction on aesthetics, theory, and critical assessment are highly encouraged.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
