Start at the Lightcatcher building at 10 a.m. to meet dogs and puppies from the Alternative Humane Society and make braided dog toys! You'll also get to craft fun animal masks and create spooky Halloween dioramas.

Then, flap your wings over to Old City Hall at noon to make bat launchers, spiders, and partake in festive feathered activities inspired by the owls and ravens in the Hall of Birds. While at Old City Hall, take a guided tour through the Syre Education Center to visit with AHS cats and kittens.

Finally, tip toe down to the Old City Hall basement for ghostly (but family-friendly) tours of the old Bellingham jail. Find the old padded jail cell and see if you can make out the writing on the wall. It will be a hauntingly good time!

All month long

In honor of Halloween, Pickford Film Center in Downtown Bellingham will screen horrifying Steven King classics from The Shining to Carrie to Cujo. Catch a different spooky film every Tuesday night throughout the month of October!

October 21

Join Mount Baker Theatre for a spooky showing of Disney's Hocus Pocus. In this classic Halloween family favorite, three unsuspecting pranksters conjure up Salem's infamous Sanderson sisters for a night of zany fun and comic chaos.

Mount Baker Theatre will kick off the evening with a costume contest, themed drinks, and more.

Hop aboard the train and fill a bag of ripe apples. After that, head back toward the barn where you can stop by the corn maze, u-pick pumpkin patch, or the cafe for some fresh apple cider donuts and a slice of apple pie.

Travel Tip: Bellewood has grown-up fun too! Their distillery features “farm-to-table” spirits including brandy, vodka, and gin. Enjoy unique flavors like their Honeycrisp Vodka or Pumpkin Spice Liqueur.

Dan Cramer's Western Town in Lynden has been offering a fall pumpkin experience for more than a decade. If you’re a pumpkin aficionado, you’ll enjoy the 30 different varieties on Cramer’s farm. The farm also offers extra fun, like draft horse rides to the pumpkin patch, a hay maze, tractor train rides, and more.

“We have lots of farm animals for the kids to look at - ducklings, baby rabbits, a baby donkey, a couple of turkeys, calves, goats, and sheep," says Dan Cramer.

This is the place for picturesque photo ops with gorgeous views of Mount Baker on clear days. If you have preschoolers, consider coming on a Friday when Cramer offers tours tailored to the Li'l crowds with instructions on how to grow pumpkins.

Located in beautiful Whatcom County, just 13 miles north of Bellingham and two miles west of Interstate 5, Home Farm U-Pick offers a pumpkin patch and so much more!

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
