Bellingham Chamber Music Society

The Bellingham Chamber Music Society presents ‘Dreams’ on February 22nd at 3pm in the Hotel Leo.

This concert features the world premier of a work commissioned by BCMS from American composer Jenni Brandon, in a Music meets Ecology fusion. The work, Osmia: Dream of the Mason Bees, is an homage to our native pollinator, the Mason Bee. Drawing inspiration from the ecology and life cycle of these spring pollinators, Jenni has created a delightful septet soundscape that reflects the richness of their short but busy lives. The music will be accompanied by images of these small ecological wonders. Thyra McKelvie, from Rent Mason Bees, will be on hand to share more about these amazing creatures who live among us.

The program also features Sul Irving Glick’s haunting trio for flute, bassoon, and marimba An Evening at Heaven’s Gate and Antonin Dvořák’s American Quartet in F major, Op. 96.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
