Workshop for Kids: Woven Valentine’s Cards with Michelle DeAsis

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a card-making activity perfect for little hands and big hearts. In this intergenerational workshop, Tlingit artist Michelle DeAsis will teach kids and families how to create a textured woven heart card using traditional paper-weaving techniques. Weaving is a great way to develop fine motor skills and persistence while exploring basic art and math concepts. Students can experiment with different colors and patterns to create their own one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day card or picture for their special Valentine.

Sessions begin at 1 pm and run every 30 minutes until 3 pm. Class registration fees include instructions and materials to weave one heart card.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online or day-of at the door, depending on availability.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
