Full Day Intro to Kayaking

Designed for complete beginners or those looking for a refresher, this class covers the fundamentals of kayaking. The morning is spent learning essential strokes and maneuvers necessary to move the kayak. Following a break for lunch (bring your own), we spend the afternoon practicing self and assisted rescues. This course will prepare you to paddle in calm, near-shore environments, and is a great precursor to joining a local paddling club or taking longer trips on your own. Small group size maximizes learning opportunities, and all equipment, including kayaks and wetsuits, is included in the cost.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
