Intro to Encaustic Painting Workshop
Come paint with Fire! Encaustic is an ancient method of painting with beeswax, but it has been growing in popularity again. Learn how to mix beeswax and Damar resin to create encaustic paint, and use a broad range of tools and techniques, including mark-making and carving into the wax, using photos and photocopy transfers, inserting collage materials and papers, and using mixed media techniques from printmaking and stamping to using watercolors and various inks.
After taking the intro series, you can come back and use all the same tools and materials to continue working through the intermediate classes. Materials Fees: $10 paid to the instructor by the first day of class. Materials to Bring: A journal/sketchbook, papers, photos, and ephemera to use for collages. Wooden items or pottery, unusual papers, stencils, dried leaves or flowers, photocopied photos, pictures, or designs may sometimes be used, so bring along anything interesting.
