Just under 10 miles north of Bellingham lies Ferndale, a vibrant and charming community located along the Nooksack River. Shop at antique stores, grab a bite or beer on Main Street, relax in a Himalayan salt cave, and explore the more rural farm life in this region around Mt. Baker at serene locations like Hovander Homestead Park and Pioneer Park.
Hovander is a turn of the century park, featuring a Victorian home that is listed on the National Historic Register. Nearby Tennant Lake Fragrance Garden is not to be missed, including the sturdy boardwalk that winds through marshlands and around Tennant Lake. Pioneer Park can be found closer in town. This wooded setting is home to one of the finest collections of original pioneer log cabins in the Northwest. These eleven log cabins, built by the early pioneers of the region, sat alone in the early forests and now are a highlight of annual events like Ferndale's Old Settler's Picnic and the Olde Fashioned Christmas.
