Best Bets for Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Bellingham and Whatcom County

Parents, you know the struggle: Sometimes you just don’t want to cook dinner, but going out can be a hassle, especially if your little eaters aren’t satisfied for some reason. The struggle only compounds when you're visiting a new place.

Fortunately, many restaurants “get it” – and make sure to cater to kids in some way, while being a cut above fast food. We've rounded up some of the best places in Bellingham and Whatcom County to dine out with kids. It’s by no means an exhaustive list but can hopefully give you an idea of where to start!

Fiamma Pizza

A favorite with many of the kid crowd, not just for the pizza but also because kids get a mound of pizza dough to play with while they wait for their food.

Stemma West

Stemma West is family-friendly and offer a full menu of drinks for the adults, including beers, hard juice, cider, non-alcoholic options, and ice cream. The Riviera Club is on-site, serving delicious bowls, burgers, and tots. During the summer, the beer garden is a wonderful family hangout while listening to live music.

The Filling Station

1950s gas station kitsch meets some mighty fine food. Friendly staff to boot. Choose from two locations, one in Sunnyland and one in Fairhaven Village.

Boomer's Drive-In

All Boomer’s kid’s meals come in cute classic car meal holders and include a burger, or their famous chicken tenders, plus fries, a drink, and a Tootsie Pop.

Moms and dads will love Boomer’s too. You can dine in your car, old-fashioned drive-in style, or dine in. The decor is straight out of a ‘50s drive-in with the soundtrack to go with it.

The Rusty Wagon

You'll spot the Rusty Wagon while driving along Hannegan Road on your way to Lynden. This funky, whimsical road-house style restaurant is a fun place to bring the whole family.

There’s a “Kids Corral” outside with a small playground and lots more to do and see around the grounds. Once inside, it’s just as fun, with country and western paraphernalia lining the walls. The Rusty Wagon serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, everything from steaks to gourmet burgers to hearty salads.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
