Announcing Alfred Hitchcock Presents, a New Series at The Pickford!

The Master of Suspense is coming to The Pickford! Tickets are on sale now for REBECCA (1940) on January 12 and SHADOW OF A DOUBT (1943) on February 16.

Once a month on Sunday afternoons starting in January of 2025 and running through October 2025, we’ll be screening a selection of nine Hitchcock films with an introduction to each film provided by Pickford Program Director, Melissa Tamminga. Here's a description from Melissa of the series:

“The films Hitch made--with their delightfully morbid and cheeky sense of humor, their gripping horror and suspense, the propulsive narratives, and the wonderfully memorable characters played by some of Hollywood’s greatest actors --immediately won over audiences and achieved fabulous commercial success in their day. And so joining us on this journey through his films will be, first and foremost, deliciously entertaining.

But Hitch’s films are more than just entertainment, too. As film scholars and critics eventually came to recognize, his films held not just commercial and popular appeal but undeniable artistic rigor, technical innovative genius, dizzying psychological complexity, and mesmerizing thematic richness--things that ultimately have made him one of the most admired and most imitated directors of all-time. And so this will be a journey of discovery, too, and an opportunity for rich conversations.

While Hitchcock’s extensive artistic career began in the silent era in Germany and England, we’ll begin our series with his first American film, the grand and lush Rebecca (1940) and move from there in chronological order, ending with the iconic and terrifying The Birds (1963).”

We are excited to be partnering with our neighbors at Storia Cucina, who will be giving attendees who show their ticket at the restaurant 10% off their meal before the film and 10% off happy hour cocktails after the film. Special Hitchcock-themed cocktails will be served each month corresponding with each film in the lineup.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
