THE FILM PROGRAMS

Drawn in Drizzle: Animation From Washington Filmmakers (all ages)
Be amazed at the talent that resides in Washington State! Fifteen shorts and short-shorts featuring delightfully animated tales that can be appreciated by all ages. Talking whales, fuzzy food, dislocated bears, ladybugs and local history all take center stage. This program originates from the Pickford and includes Bellingham-based filmmakers. Animators include Bellinghamsters Phoebe Wahl and Bradley James Lockhart along with Clyde Petersen, Andrea Love, John Osebold, Webster Crowell, Stefan Gruber, Britta Johnson, Tess Martin and Drew Christie.

Hopeful Harmonies (Early learners and primary)
Twelve short films from eight different countries that will take you on a fanciful international musical journey. Carefully curated by Children’s Film Festival Seattle from their 2023 edition, some of these films are nonverbal, some are in English and a few have subtitles but music is the universal language that everyone can understand. Parents can feel free to read subtitles aloud, for non-readers and early readers.

Warm and Fuzzy (Ages 2+)
Follow along as these critters and kids embark on adventures of friendship, family, and learning to be oneself. This colorful collection of animated films will leave you radiating love and light. The films included come to the Pickford from our friends at Children’s Film Festival Seattle. They have been gathered for us from filmmakers in six different countries and are all brand new.

Founded in 1998, the Pickford Film Center serves the Whatcom community by screening independent films 365 days a year, producing and presenting the annual Doctober film festival, the Bellingham Children’s Film Festival, numerous film series and special events.  The Pickford offers free documentary film showings to all Whatcom middle schools through Doc-ED and partners with students and schools for many other events during the year.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
