Bellingham Training and Tennis Club Powers Ahead with 240 Solar Panels, Championing Sustainable Energy and Environmental Responsibility

Bellingham Training & Tennis Club, a beloved family-owned local retail business, is proud to announce a significant step toward sustainability and environmental responsibility with the installation of 240 solar panels on their rooftop. This initiative marks the Club’s substantial investment in renewable energy, environmental responsibility, reducing our carbon footprint, and making a positive impact in our community.

The newly installed solar panels are expected to generate an impressive 134,281 kilowatt-hours of clean, renewable energy annually, substantially reducing the business's reliance on traditional energy sources. This shift towards solar power will result in a substantial decrease in the company's carbon footprint, aligning with its core values of environmental stewardship.

By harnessing the power of the sun, Bellingham Training and Tennis Club aims to significantly cut its energy costs, making it possible to invest more in delivering high-quality products and services to its valued members and guests. Additionally, the move towards sustainable energy sources demonstrates the company's commitment to being at the forefront of environmentally responsible business practices.

Key Benefits of the Solar Installation:

  1. Environmental Preservation: The installation of 240 solar panels will reduce our carbon emissions by 161,137 lbs per year – or the equivalent of burning 8,057 gallons of gasoline - contributing significantly to the fight against climate change and preserving the local environment for future generations.
  1. Energy Independence:  By generating about 68% of the facility's electricity needs, Bellingham Training and Tennis Club is taking a step towards energy independence, ensuring a reliable power supply for years to come.
  1. Savings and Economic Impact:  The transition to solar power will lead to significant cost savings on energy bills, enabling the BTTC to reinvest these savings back into the business and the local community.
  1. Educational Opportunities:  BTTC plans to use this initiative as an educational platform with a link to view actual energy production from the roof panels and a discount via referral to Western Solar for your own solar installations.

Robin Robertson, Co-Owner and General Manager of Bellingham Training and Tennis Club, is wildly excited about this monumental achievement: "We are excited to announce the installation of 240 solar panels on our massive rooftop. This initiative is a significant step towards our commitment to reducing our environmental impact We hope this project inspires other businesses and individuals in our community to embrace renewable energy and work together towards a cleaner, greener future."

“I have a degree in environmental science and have always worked toward reducing the environmental impacts of our business.  The solar panels are the ‘icing on the roof’ in addition to the LED lighting, reflective tennis court walls and ceilings to improve light quality, recycling, composting, and environmentally friendly cleaning products we already have.”

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
