Bellingham Waypoint Park Wins Another Design Award

The Seattle section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has recognized Waypoint Park in Bellingham with a 2019 Local Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award. Gina Austin, Parks Project Engineer accepted the award on behalf of the City of Bellingham at a ceremony in Seattle on June 12, 2019. [caption id="attachment_77699" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Photo by Beau Gaughran, Bellingham Whatcom County Tourism[/caption] This is the second award for Waypoint Park, the City's first new park in the Waterfront District. ASCE represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries and is the nation’s oldest engineering society. ASCE is also the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public. The annual ASCE awards recognize outstanding projects in the categories of Geotechnical, Structural, Ports and Waterways, Water Resources, Transportation and Development, and Small Project and Non-Construction Studies. These are the award-winning projects:

Waypoint Park and Central Avenue Pier in the City of Bellingham. The design team led by KPFF Consulting Engineers also included Walker Macy, Coastal Geologic Services, Aspect Consulting, and GeoEngineers.
Smith Island Estuary Restoration Project which was undergone by Snohomish County Public Works in collaboration with City of Everett and Puget Sound Energy. The project was designed by Otak and Shannon and Wilson.
Rhododendron Park Waterfront and Open Space Access project in City of Kenmore. The project team led by Osborn Consulting also included Aspect Consulting, Axis Survey and Mapping, CivilTech Engineering, KBA Construction Management, Northwest Environmental Consulting, Sitts and Hill Engineers and Ohno Construction.
SR 520 West Approach Bridge – North designed by Shannon and Wilson. The project team also included HDR, SCSolutions and Parametrix.
