Join the Bellingham Public Library for a free, family-friendly event featuring music and sing-alongs, stories, crafts and more, planned for 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 20. The Central Library will stay open later than usual for this special Friday evening event. The library welcomes musicians Geof Morgan and special guests, sing-alongs with Helen and Richard Scholtz, music by PhDJ Spencer Willows, storyteller Doug Banner, activities hosted by PLLAY, face painting by Chelle Beautiful and other activities for an evening of music, crafts and more. The event is funded in part by a Project Neighborly grant from the Whatcom Community Foundation. “This is an important time for communities to come together and find ways to foster hope and kindness,” Janice Keller, Communications Manager for the Bellingham Public Library, said. She said that with our cold, dark winter weather, post-holiday, back-to-school and back-to-work stresses, and contentious current events in the news, we all are looking for a little extra kindness and light. “Public libraries offer the ideal place to gather and promote hope and kindness as we start the new year,” she said. Bethany Hoglund, Head of Youth Services, said families with school-aged children in particular are seeking ways to connect with positive people who are making constructive, worthwhile contributions to our community, and looking for opportunities to promote hope, kindness and optimism. The event will include music and opportunities to sing along with local musicians Geof Morgan and special guests as well as Helen and Richard Scholtz, stories by Doug Banner, master storyteller and director of the Bellingham Storyteller’s Guild, and crafts including making small paper lantern luminaria.
