CASCADIA Now Accepting Submissions For Script Studio

CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival is now open for submissions for its popular Script Studio workshop during its 2022 film festival.

The festival, scheduled for May 12-15 in Bellingham, WA, and online, showcases exceptional films directed or co-directed by women from around the world. The Script Studio educational workshop is open for short film scripts written by women from anywhere in the world. It is designed to provide scriptwriters with discussions and evaluations of their work.

The Script Studio, which will take place during the festival is open to the public. It includes a live reading of the scripts by actors followed by a panel discussion by film industry professionals.

Panels in previous years have included film producers, directors, actors, and casting directors. It is preferable that writers attend the presentation for direct participation in the discussions but alternatives like Skype have also been used.

Scripts should be in screenplay form and no longer than 25 pages. All narrative genres and film formats are acceptable including animation. Submissions should be sent to scriptstudio@cascadiafilmfest.org by January 15, 2022. Writers will be notified of acceptance in February 2022.

ABOUT CASCADIA:

CASCADIA is a non-profit film festival solely dedicated to showcasing and celebrating exceptional films directed by women. It just completed a fifth successful multi-day festival in May 2020 with more than 30 films representing 14 countries.

Now entering its sixth year, CASCADIA showcases and celebrates exceptional films directed by women. It is only one of five film festivals in the U.S. currently dedicated to this purpose.

Directors from the U.S. and abroad attended. Programs included narrative features, documentaries, animated and live-action short films, works by students and emerging filmmakers, and films by Indigenous women filmmakers. In addition, CASCADIA staged educational panel discussions and a script studio during the four-day festival as well as social and networking events.

In 2018, CASCADIA Cheryl Boone Isaacs, former President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, was honored at the festival for her outstanding career, her significant contributions to the film industry, and her dedication to promoting and advocating for women in the industry.

The festival chose as its 2019 Honored Guest documentary filmmaker and Academy Award-winning director Freida Mock. Mock attended the festival for a special screening of her film, "Anita: Speaking Truth to Power" with a post-film discussion and a pre-show conversation for our audience with Documentary Magazine editor Tom White.

CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and showcasing the work of women filmmakers, was formed in Bellingham, Washington, in 2015. CASCADIA will host its fourth annual independent film festival in Bellingham, May 12-15, 2022. The organization also works year-round to provide film production, exhibition, and distribution education. More information about CASCADIA may be found on their website at www.cascadiafilmfest.org.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
