Celebrating 10 Years with the Maestro!

General tickets for the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra's 48th Season are on sale now

This October marks 10 years since Music Director Yaniv Attar took the stage at the Mount Baker Theatre for his debut performance with the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra) on October 6, 2013. The debut concert, titled Celebrate! Debut, featured the Die Fledermaus overture, Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, and Dvořák's Symphony No. 8.  At the end of that season, Maestro Attar commented: "My first season with the WSO has been truly remarkable...The support and love of the community to our wonderful symphony is, in my mind, unparalleled and a source of envy to many orchestras in this country."

Since then, Attar has championed innovative and inclusive programming and brought dozens of guest artists to Whatcom County to perform with the orchestra. The Harmony from Discord programmatic series, which Attar spearheaded in 2016, shines a light on music that transcends oppression. Harmony from Discord will continue this year with works interwoven throughout the season concerts as well as a Center Stage with Harmony from Discord concert on May 5th, featuring Peter Boyer's Ellis Island: The Dream of America and Tan Dun's Crouching Tiger Concerto from the iconic film.

In celebration of the anniversary season, Attar will conduct each concert with a commemorative baton that concertgoers can take home with them by donation. More information about the Anniversary Batons may be found on the website or by calling (360) 756-6752.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
