Eat Local Month: Experience joy and purpose while eating local for a resilient food future

September Eat Local Month is back! Join Sustainable Connections as they support and share the work of local farmers, fishers, ranchers, chefs, restaurateurs, and grocers during Eat Local Month.

Follow Eat Local First NW (@eatlocalfirstnw) on social media in September to take your taste bud your taste buds on a journey through the farmlands, seas, markets, and restaurants of Northwest Washington.

Sustainable Connections will be highlighting ways to enjoy local food in Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, and Island counties; connecting people to place. Whether it is salmon sustainably reef-netted from the Salish Sea, innovative agricultural techniques that produce bountiful crops, or restaurants that source from their neighboring farms. Eat Local Month will celebrate Farm Week, Market Week, Seafood Week, and Restaurant Week, as you explore the area to get a taste of what grows here. Adventure seekers can get the full farm to table experience with Bike NW on the Edible Everson Tour, or half-day Sea to Table Tour complete with a stop for snacks at SeaFeast!

When you eat local, you are keeping your dollars in your local economy, supporting families and entrepreneurs in your community, and making choices for a greener planet. After all, veggies from a farm stand down the road have significantly less environmental impact than what you would find in a store.

Stay tuned for updates on weekly prize giveaways and additional chances to enter to win a Grand Prize worth over $350 in fun, tasty food experiences and gift cards. Explore Northwest Washington with Sustainable Connections this September to connect with your community, delight your taste buds, and support a vibrant and thriving food system for all.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
