Two Northwest Washington Fair favorites return this summer and are filled with action. The Demolition Derby and the Lynden PRCA Rodeo will be held at the Fair's Bank of the Pacific Grandstand Entertainment Series this year, with tickets for each going on sale to the public on Thursday, June 15. Dozens of drivers looking for hard-hitting collisions will compete in this year’s Demolition Derby on Monday, Aug. 14. Grandstand tickets are $10 for the 12:30 p.m. show and $18 for the 7:30 p.m. show, which often sells out. Gate admission isn’t included in the grandstand ticket prices, but is also required. Entry forms for the demo derby will be available at the fair office, 1775 Front St., Lynden. Additionally, top cowboys in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association will compete in the 13th-annual Lynden PRCA Rodeo, scheduled Aug. 15-16. Lynden PRCA Rodeo events include bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping and barrel racing. Children 10 and younger will be admitted for free to the rodeo performances, which start at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Rodeo tickets cost $15 a piece and do not include gate admission to the fair, which is required. Both nights of the rodeo will be part of the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign. Contestants, volunteers and spectators are encouraged to “wear pink” on Aug. 15 to raise awareness of breast cancer while local rodeo volunteers conducted fundraisers. Last year the Tough Enough to Wear Pink program in Lynden donated a record $46,050 to the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center in Bellingham for cancer patient care and research. Tickets for the Demo Derby and Lynden PRCA Rodeo can be purchased at www.nwwafair.com and the fair office, 1775 Front St., Lynden, and by phone at (877) 699-FAIR. VIP packages for both will also be on sale, beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 15. Tickets for the Bank of the Pacific Grandstand Entertainment Series already are on sale for iconic rock band Night Ranger on Aug. 17, country singer and “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery on Aug. 18 and standup comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias on Aug. 19. The Northwest Washington Fair will be presented Aug. 14-19.
