The Bellingham Farmers Market kicks off its 29th season this year on April 3rd at Depot Market Square in Downtown Bellingham! Although some things continue to look different because of Covid, the market remains a vibrant hub for outdoor shopping. The Market supports over 100 small and local businesses, whose doors and farm fields are located throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties. Here is a quick look at what’s in store for the 2021 season.
As a lead up to the main season opening, Kulshan will be hosting a fundraiser for the Bellingham Farmers Market, March 29-31. For every pint bought at the K2 location on Kentucky St during these days, Kulshan will donate $1 to Bellingham Farmers market. Event will be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 12 pm – 9 pm. The Saturday market will resume its weekly schedule at Depot Market Square, from April 3 through December 18, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.. You can expect about 60-70 vendors per market day. Farmers, food producers and artisans will offer locally grown and produced goods. You will be able to find kitchen staples like tomatoes, potatoes, and carrots in addition to other unique produce items like purple tomatillos, figs, ground cherries, and garlic scapes. The Bellingham Farmers Market proudly accepts SNAP EBT (formerly “food stamps”) and pandemic EBT for families with children. The “Market Match” program can double a customer’s purchasing power up to $40. The market also accepts WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) checks from June through October. Despite Covid, the Bellingham Farmers Market wants to the let the community know that they are here to stay. In May, keep a look out for a new fixture at Depot Market Square – a farmers market mural! The farmers market ran a successful Indiegogo campaign to raise the necessary funds. Local artists, Gretchen Leggitt and Sarah Finger co-designed the mural. The mural’s goals are to designate the Depot as the permanent home of the Bellingham Farmers Market and to help bring art and beauty to our beloved downtown B’ham.
In June, the Wednesday farmers market will begin at its new home, the downtown waterfront. Located by the Pump Track and Waypoint Park, the Wednesday market will boast about 40 vendors against the backdrop of the former Georgia Pacific Papermill buildings. The site offers nearby access to shopping, biking, walking and playing at the beach or playground. The Wednesday market will be open June through September, 4-7 pm. After Covid restrictions are eventually lifted, the Wednesday market hopes to offer live music and other family friendly activities.

In addition, some produce vendors may allow customers to self-select items, while others may not. Signage will be posted. Customers may bring their own shopping bags. And lastly, remember to keep it movin’ and make space for others due to social distancing requirements.
