Western Washington University Alum and NFL Veteran Matt Overton is the latest guest on Viking Voices Podcast

Former Western Washington University football player and current Tennessee Titan Matt Overton is the latest guest on the Viking Voices Podcast.

The NFL veteran, who played football for the Bellingham Vikings from 2005-06, will be playing in his 110th career NFL game and seventh playoff game this weekend as the Titans host the Baltimore Ravens in an AFC Wildcard game on Sunday in Nashville (10:05 am PT).

Viking Voices

Overton is a native of Tracy, California, and spent two seasons playing for the Vikings in Bellingham. He transferred to WWU from Diablo Valley Junior College.

In the 40-minute podcast, which is also available in video form with closed captioning on YouTube, Overton covers several topics, including highlights of his time on the Western campus, his journey to the NFL, the interesting 2020 season in the NFL with COVID protocols and even discusses his support for WWU football after the program was discontinued following the 2008 season.

In nine NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts (2012-16), Jacksonville Jaguars (2017-18) and Tennessee Titans (2020), Overton has appeared in 109 games. This will be his fourth trip to the playoffs, and first since the 2014 season with the Colts. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2013 while serving as the long snapper for future Hall of Famer Adam Vinatieri.

Overton is an active poster on social media, and can be followed on Twitter and Instagram via @MattOverton_LS.

The Viking Voices Podcast debuted in 2019 with Director of Athletic Communications Jeff Evans serving as the host. The 16-episode podcast has featured guests including several current head coaches, notable alumni, athletics staff and current student-athletes. Viking Voices is available for download at WWUVikings.com, in addition to Apple PodcastsStitcher and Spotify.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
