If you are a young volleyball enthusiast and looking to learn the game from some of the best players in the nation, then we have the perfect activity for you prior to four home Western Washington University volleyball matches this fall.
The WWU volleyball program in Bellingham, will host four free youth clinics during the 2019 season, beginning this Saturday in Carver Gym. The four free clinics will be offered September 21, October 12, October 26 and November 2 prior to Saturday home matches. The clinics are from 11:30 am-12:30 pm in Carver Gym on the WWU campus, with check-in starting at 11 am. No pre-registration is required. Free parking is offered in the C lots on the south end of the WWU campus, just a short walk from Carver Gym.
All clinic participants will receive a free ticket for the match that night, beginning with Saturday’s in-state rivalry match vs. Central Washington with first serve at 7 pm in Carver Gym. The clinic is open to youth ages 8th grade and younger with all ages welcome (free babysitting also offered).
These youth clinics are a great opportunity to learn the game from one of the best programs in all of collegiate volleyball. Led by 20th-year head coach Diane Flick-Williams, the Vikings have risen to the top of the NCAA Division II rankings in recent years. WWU is coming off a national runner-up season in 2018 and is off to an 8-0 record in 2019 and currently ranked No. 2 in the nation. The Vikings have been ranked in 97 consecutive national polls dating back to the start of the 2012 season.
“We simply love hosting these clinics and teaching this great game to young volleyball players,” said Flick-Williams. “Our student-athletes love teaching at these clinics and it is a great opportunity to come out and have some fun and learn more about the game in a great setting. We can’t wait for all to join us in Carver Gym.”
With the non-conference schedule complete, the Vikings (8-0) are off to the second-best start in program history and now embark on the 20-match GNAC schedule. WWU opens the conference season with its home opener this Thursday in Carver Gym, hosting Northwest Nazarene in a 7 pm match on WECU Court and follows with a Saturday match against in-state rival Central Washington (7 pm). WWU is not only 8-0 this season, but dating back to the beginning of 2018, have won 38 of its last 39 matches.
