Whatcom Community College’s inaugural Orca Golf Classic raises $40,000 for student athletes

Whatcom Community College’s first-ever golf tournament fundraiser raised $40,445 for the College’s seven athletic programs. A total of 33 teams and 132 golfers turned out for the Orca Golf Classic on June 10, 2021 at the Sudden Valley Golf and Country Club. Proceeds were raised through entry fees, hole sponsorships, on-course contests, raffle drawings, and an online auction. Louis’ Auto Glass was the official ball sponsor for the event.

“A big thank you to all our golfers, volunteers and supporters who made the Orca Golf Classic such a fun day out at the golf course,” said Danny Day, WCC’s Director for Athletics & Recreation. “You helped us raise funds for our Orca student-athletes and build up the next generation of leaders in Whatcom County.”

Photos from the day can be viewed online. The winning foursome of the 18-hole tournament were Rick Adelstein, Ari Adelstein, Josh Fish, and Ethan Potts, who finished with a score of 50 strokes, 22 strokes under par. Full tournament results can be viewed here. A date has already been set for next year’s Orca Golf Classic: June 9, 2022 at the Sudden Valley Golf and Country Club.

WCC’s athletic seasons begin in August with the return of cross country, soccer, and volleyball as a part of the Northwest Athletic Conference’s updated schedule. Basketball begins in October. Learn more at www.whatcom.edu/athletics.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
