Whatcom Transportation Authority Offers Free Fare Days Throughout Whatcom County, August 11 Through 20

Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) will provide free rides on all bus trips within Whatcom County from August 11 through August 20, 2022.

For riders headed to the Northwest Washington Fair, WTA will be offering a special 10 p.m. bus from the fairgrounds back to Bellingham. This 10 p.m. bus is available on weeknights and Saturdays only. It will depart from a bus stop across the street from the fairgrounds, between Bank of the Pacific and Fairside Drive. It will make two stops: Cordata Station, located near Whatcom Community College, and downtown's Bellingham Station.

Like all rides during Free Fare Days, rides on this special 10 p.m. bus are free.

In addition to the special 10 p.m. bus (weekdays and Saturdays only,) WTA's Route 26 provides regular bus service to the fairgrounds between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on weekdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8:05 a.m. to 6:05 p.m. on Sundays.

Riders wishing to park and ride can park for free at WTA's Cordata Station. Parking is first come, first served, and overnight parking is not allowed.

In addition to free rides on fixed route buses, all rides are free on paratransit and on WTA's Lynden Hop.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
